Hi Folks. We usually open @ 10 on Sunday, but, as you can imagine, it was a bit of a late night last night!
We will open at 11am on St. Patrick’s Day and close @ midnight tonight. No brunch menu today, just our limited St. Patrick’s Day menu.
Come on in!
A Brief Reason for Action
In Tennessee, there are certain laws that apply to restaurants that serve Liquor By the Drink (LBD). These restaurants fall under other state restrictions. Among those restrictions is a law that states that Tennessee restaurants with a LBD license (like O’Possum’s) which serves beer for consumption on premises (drink it while you are there) may not sell beer for consumption off premises (beer to go – growlers). I’m sure that there was a good reason for this bill when it was created, but with the explosive growth of brewpubs in Tennessee that sell beer, wine, and spirits, it is time for the law to change.
The Good News
Senator Becky Duncan Massey from Knoxville has introduced Senate Bill (SB) 0747 and Representative Roger Kane, also from Knoxville has introduced House Bill (HB) 0903. At the moment, these bills are identical and both have been filed for introduction. Information on the bill and its progress may be found at:

We’ve had a few questions lately about what the Mug Club is. We’re quickly running out of spots, but I wanted to make sure we had a good description on our website so you could find out.
O’Possum’s Pub Mug Club. Now try saying that three times fast! Well the mug club is just about the best deal going, and if you’re a beer drinker or a collector of fine art and glassware, you’re going to want to be a part of it.
O’Possum’s Pub Mug Club shall hereafter known as the Mug Club. It’s just too much to type and way too hard to say. Here’s what it’s all about.
The Mug Club features a 20 ounce multifaceted collector glass mug with O’Possum’s original art on the front. There will be different artwork each year to make them unique. The first year is the O’Possum Family Crest. When you become a member of the Mug Club, you get one of those mugs of your very own with your name right there with the artwork. That mug stays at the pub in a special section over the bar. When you come in, we’ll swipe your Mug Club card and find your glass down to serve you. (As a note, it takes anywhere from 8-12 weeks for the mugs to arrive at O’Possum’s. Your year’s membership does not begin until the actual mug arrives.)
When you order almost any drink from sweet tea to beer at O’Possum’s, you’ll get it in a traditional pint glass which is 16 ounces. But if you’re a member of the Mug Club, you’ll get your beer in your own mug for the same price that it would have been for the pint glass. Then, when you’re finished, we’ll wash the glass and put it right back over the bar to wait for your next visit. (Both the Mug and O’Possum’s hopes that it will be soon.) Now if you’re in one of those situations where you feel it better to not have your real name on the Mug, just let us know what you want it to say. If it’s clean and within reason, we’ll put it on there.
At the end of the year, you take the Mug home to rest on your mantle, trophy case, or headboard of your bed as a remembrance of a fine year at O’Possum’s. If you’ve going to be with us for another year, just join again and we’ll have a nice new Mug with your name and different original artwork hanging up for you.
Now for those of you who live a distance from O’Possum’s and don’t feel that you’ll make it in for a beer now and again, well… that’s very sad. But to make up for it, you can still sign-up for the Mug Club and we’ll send the mug to your home with no shipping charges so you can start using it to enjoy other, and (we’re just saying) perhaps inferior, beers.
